Bald Jason's Musings

So...I've been reading a lot of Star Trek books in the last few years. I'd been reading the post-series-DS9 books as they were far superior (to my way of thinking) than the Next Generation / Voyager / Enterprise books, whose storylines were beholden to the continuity of their shows, which continued to air or be released theatrically. Then something changed. Voyager ended. Nemesis was the last Next Gen movie. Enterprise was cancelled. Suddenly all these shows were being rebooted in kick ass book series with a shared continuity that actually allowed for major consequences. New Frontier (which actually came first), Titan, S.C.E. & Vanguard followed. I've read a couple of the Voyager ones, which were ok. A few of the Next Gen ones, which were pretty good. I've read all the New Frontier series (which is EXCELLENT). I'm 1 behind on DS9. I'm 2 behind on Titan. I'm way behind on S.C.E. and I've yet to touch Vanguard, though not for lack of interest (I own all of them). For now I'm backtracking and reading the titles that started this new continuity. A 9 book Next Gen series set before (and then slightly after) Star Trek: Nemesis. There are 4 Voyager books that are set before them, but I've read the first 3.5 and chose to skip the rest for now. I've read the first 2 books of this Next Gen series and I pretty much loathed them. I've started the next one which I'm already enjoying more. Here are the covers of the 9 book "A Time To..." series:

There's also another Next Gen title here that I've neglected to read as I've hated all previous books by this author but I may get around to it at some point:

I have read the next 5 Next Gen titles (which feature some crossover with the other series). And I've read the first few Titan Novels which are a Next Gen spin-off. I've also read the first 2 Voyager books that kind of begin this leg of Star Trek continuity.

Other books that I hope to read that take place in this kind of cycle of continuity include:

This fall, DS9 (which contributed to the Desiny Trilogy) gets in on the act with 2 volumes, the first of which should be out in late October:

So endeth my rant.
