FIVE YEARS AND ONE DAY

I saw you standing alone
and wow...

I can't believe you've been mine
now...

It took so long
but we always wanted...

And yet so long
you left me haunted...

But I want you to know
I'm grateful for you...

And I cherish the
way that our friendship grew...

For I love you so;
more than I can convey...

And it only took
five years and one day.

And I met someone else
in the bar the same night...

But the timing was bad
until it was right...

And we cleaved to each other
for a night till it ended...

Never regretting the man
I'd befriended...

But we fell apart
for reasons forgotten...

But then he returned
and saw me more often...

And we are now friends
in ways unexpected...

And the three of us met once;
together erected.

And now we all know,
each other within,
the bounds set by lovers,
and I can't begin,
to thank you both now,
for the time & the way...

You're both more amazing
than expressed in this phrasing...

Here's to another
five years and one day!
