SURE, I'M SURE

It was that good.

The sex was fun.
The sex was sex.

But it was that good
because of the things that you said,
the things you confessed,
and how you confessed them.

It was that good
because you respected me & my feelings.

It was that good
because of the way that you smiled.

It was that good because
of the way you spoke of insecurities
in an uncertain voice
that trembled a little
while making me want you all the more.

Touching myself, alone, fun as that is, pales by comparison.

Which is why relationships can be scary,
when you've had that and lost it,
and had to go without it
once you've known what it was.

It was that good because we didn't hold back.

And if we stay that way,
with all of these qualities intact
but allowed to flourish
it can only get better,
and I can't help thinking that it will.

Because it really was that good.
