Darla:

Several months ago

when we weren't speaking

(as we sometimes aren't...)

I wondered if the Darla I had

always loved wasn't gone

from me forever...

Thankfully that silence ended

& we are still the friends

I've always imagined we were.

But only weeks ago

when sorting through photos

for website display I

realized there was something

that I needed to express to you...

so here it is:

You have the most astonishing beauty that I've ever seen...

so very strong & vivid & blinding...

yet so fragile, splintered, & almost painful...

You're like a beautful glass sculpture

that has been carved & faceted,

& yet you've lost none of your rough edges...

And when your pain, or your joy, or your heartbreak shines through the heart of you,

there is no way on earth to not see it

casting rainbow swirls of emotional turmoil on all those around you;

beautiful it is...beautiful & awesome.

And in all the years that I've known you,

in all of your incarnations...

the striking beauty that is all your own

has remained vital & intact.

The Darla that I met years ago has changed

& is different; as we all are...

but your beauty has remained alive &

more importantly - so have you.
