DIVINITY
In the wood
Under snowfall
We were two young men
Out stretching our legs.
Beneath the bough of ancient oaks;
Between frozen cotton snowflakes;
We were chilled & frost breathing men,
Easing hunger in our minds,
While addressing our heartaches.
I leaned against a tree
& you huddled close against me,
With that sad sparkle about your eye;
As if any moment you might cry...
Before I covered your mouth with mine -
And the war that came between us...
Nor the men that would taunt & tease us;
Those that kill in the name of Jesus...
Could NOT sunder our kiss divine.
