ONE DAY
I had a dentist appointment
& while too many hands invaded
my mouth, George Michael's
"Father Figure" came on the sound
system & I didn't mind those hands
anymore.
I chased a balloon across a field
of flowers that I trampled & tore
from the earth as I reached as
hard as I could for the heavens
& what was painted there.
I saw a movie in a theater with
a boyfriend and we huddled close
& kissed & giggled & stood up to
leave in tears of passion that
washed away the magic of that
moment.
I wrote a poem about a prince &
his princess even as I dreamed of that
prince & how he would save me;
hold me, scold me, love & enslave me...
I wrote another poem & another & another...
