THE QUICK & THE DEAD
I awoke to find my cousin, frozen
& stareing down into my eyes...
Two boys sleeping in the shadow of death.
He looked as though he'd been crying.
I said nothing... but looked at his eyes,
which now seemed unfocused as he
averted those green seas away from me.
His shirt unbuttoned, his chest layed bare,
his jeans were undone, though they covered
him still.
& then his arm came to life & glided through
the heavy thickness of atmosphere between
us to land whisper soft on my naked chest.
& then I was stirring... hard... throbbing... on the verge
of tears... & hungry & shaking with all I couldn't say.
He knelt down to kiss me...
His hand still on my chest...
A merging of sorrows;
A resurrection of flesh;
A joining combination;
& then there was one.
