Silent, Staring, Numb, Tingling, Cold, Unconvinced, and Uncomfortable

(having a general bad day)

By Travis Kelley, 07/28/01

The drive back from Ann Arbor was long.

My car was empty and airless.

Silence pervaded.

I stared at cars.

Work was a numb, tingling throb.

I know something happened,

But I can’t bring myself to remember.

Or care.

My house is cold and barren.

The sunshine dripping though the windows

Attempting to make me smile

Is unconvincing.

My room is bare.

There is nothingness between the four walls

That close me in seclusion.

At least nothing that matters.

My bed is hard, uncomfortable,

And icy to the touch.

Because your love is not there to warm it.

And me.

I lay here.

Silent,

Staring,

Numb,

Tingling,

Cold,

Unconvinced,

And uncomfortable.

But eager.
