It's expected that Season 4 will begin either Saturday April 5, or Saturday April 12.

Bernard Cribbins, who plays the character of Wilfred Mott, the newspaper seller in

"Voyage of the Damned", will turn up again: "He plays a character who's gonna crop

up again in the series several times - he's gonna be playing a recurring character.

There'll be a separate press release about him and what he's gonna be

doing." - Phil Collinson

Wilfred Mott is apparently Donna's Grandfather!  Expect to see him in the Series 4 premiere,

"Partners in Crime".

Donna, Martha, Rose, Captain Jack & Sarah Jane will all be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When it was suggested that the return of Rose, Donna & Martha

made the TARDIS seem like a harem, Russell T. Davies reportedly

said: "It's cleverer than that.  There is a very big story coming up

and the Doctor needs everyone he has ever needed to fight for him."

Sounds Awesome!  There are rumors that K9 will return as well,

and possibly Jackie, Pete & Mickey, and more Torchwood as well!  Hope it's true.

UNIT will be back: "Yes, They're back!  Properly!  We've seen UNIT

now and then...but now they're centre stage!" - Russell T. Davies

Rumor has it that they're back in time to deal with those menacing Sontarans.

It's also been rumored and suggested that Martha Jones will actually be working

for UNIT - which would give her some interesting experiences, having been a

companion to the Doctor, and having worked with both UNIT & Torchwood as well!

Russell T. Davies on Season 4: "Viewers can expect many more ambitious storylines

and a whole host of guest stars in 2008."

It's been revealed in multiple interviews that Doctor Who will be with us for some time

to come, and that no casting changes will derail that.

Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), who was introduced in the 2006 Christmas Special

"The Runaway Bride", will be the Doctor's companion for all 13 episodes of Series 4!

"I am delighted to be returning to 'Doctor Who'.  I had a blast last Christmas, and look

forward to traveling again through time and space with that nice man from

Gallifrey." - Catherine Tate

Catherine has also confirmed that she is only a 1 season companion and that

she will not be appearing in the 2009 specials, though it remains to be seen if

she will appear in this year's Christmas special, or leave in the proper series

4 finale.  For the record, Catherine has also stated that she believes David

Tennant will leave the series after the 2009 specials.

There are various rumors at any given time about David Tennant & Russell T Davies'

departures from Doctor Who, but they're all so jumbled that it's hard to take any of

them seriously...though this doesn't rule them out.  And Russell's departure was looking

more and more likely, with the possibility that Who writer Steven Moffat might be

taking over the series...it was later announced that David & Russell would be around

at least through the end of 2009 - which will feature 3 Doctor Who specials instead of

a full season, to be followed by a full Season 5 in 2010.  This will either give everyone

time to recharge their batteries, or find suitable replacements.  Since that announcement

it's been revealed that Julie Gardner & Phil Collinson (the show's 2 producers) will be

leaving the program, with further rumors that Russell & David will also be leaving

following the 2009 Special episodes to make way for a new team, including a new Doctor.

David Tennant has not stated that he hasn't yet decided if he will continue

in the role of the Doctor beyond the 3 2009 specials.  I'm betting he leaves.

Actor Tim McInnerny will guest star in an episode.

Though she may have been joking, Executive Producer Julie Gardner referred to the

Doctor's severed hand: "Oh yes!  The hand in the jar is very important. [laughs]  There

is an ongoing serial arc for the hand in a jar."

Noel Clarke has hinted that Mickey Smith, last seen in the alternate world with Jackie,

Pete & Rose, may return in the 4th Series!  He actually wrote an episode of Torchwood

Season 1 ("Combat"), and when asked if he would be writing any more scripts for

Torchwood Season 2 he said: "I'm not doing the 2nd Season of Torchwood because I'm

doing things that I can't talk about."  Later, he said: "I think over the 2 seasons, people

really grew to like Jackie & Mickey & Pete.  And consequently, as Rose departed, they

departed with her.  I think it's great that they're missed."  As for how the writers would

explain Mickey's possible return, Clarke offered a vague explanation:  "It's a parallel

universe, baby.  The only thing I could say is that it's sci-fi, right?  And in sci-fi, there's

no real rules, is there?"  - - - Billie Piper has said that she has no idea how this rumor started

and that she doesn't rule out future appearances, but currently has no plans to return.

And it seems less likely now that Noel Clarke will be appearing in Season 4 as Mickey, as

what he was apparently talking about here (although rather slyly) is a spin off media project

in which he isn't even portraying Mr. M. Smith, but a completely new character.  It's possible

he might turn up at the end of Season 4 as well though as Mickey Smith, as Rose has been

confirmed to appear, along with Martha, Donna & 10.

Expect more Classic villains to return.

The Sontarans will return, with Christopher Ryan playing the Sontaran leader.  These aliens previously appeared in "The Time Warrior" (which also introduced Sarah Jane Smith), "The Sontaran Experiment", "The Invasion of Time" and "The Two Doctors".  They were most recently referenced in The Sarah Jane Adventures' episode "Eye of the Gorgon, Part I".  ;-0)  It's been said that they will appear in a 2 part episode that also features the return of Martha Jones; these are most likely episodes 4 & 5 - written by Helen Raynor.

It's rumored that Sir Ben Kingsley is close to being cast as Davros, the scientist from

the planet Skaro who created the Daleks.  Davros has previously appeared in "Genesis

of the Daleks", "Destiny of the Daleks", "Resurrection of the Daleks", "Revelation of the

Daleks" & "Remembrance of the Daleks".  This rumor has not been confirmed, and some

sources claim that Series 4 will be Dalek Free.  But the folks that release the Doctor Who

DVDs are releasing a boxed set of all the Davros stories in March 2008, so maybe the

rumors are true!?!

Sir Ben Kingsley isn't the only actor who is rumored to be appearing as Davros.

It's also been rumored that next season's finale will tie into the Time War, and that

next year's phrase (as in "Bad Wolf", "Torch Wood" and "Mr. Saxon") will have to

do with something the Master said in one of his closing episodes, and he did talk about

the Time War.  :-0)

According to several reports, while the Master was given a way to return in "Last of the

Time Lords", this was done out of respect to future writers who want to include the

Master, but there are no current plans to bring The Master back in Series 4.  But there

are rumors that suggest this is a fib on the part of the producers, and that The Master

will also return at the end of Series 4.

Dennis Hopper will NOT be on the show this season.

Martha Jones will return for 5 episodes.  It was originally believed that she would appear

in the final 5 episodes of the season, but it's beginning to look like she'll be appearing in

5 episodes spread across the season.  It's also been noticed that she's wearing a ring,

and may be engaged or married when she returns (hopefully to the hottie doctor bloke

from "Last of the Time Lords").  It's also been suggested that she's wearing something

that may imply that she's now a member of UNIT - that being the badge she seems to

be covering in these pictures:

"Yeah, we're currently filming the two Sontaran episodes and she's in that one.  I don't

want to go into numbers of episodes and things like that, but she pops in and out at

various point across the series.  She's a real presence in the series."  - Phil Collinson

John Barrowman has revealed in interviews that Captain Jack Harkness will appear in

at least 1 4th Season adventure, which will film sometime after Christmas 2007.  This most

likely ties into the massive story that Russell has said will feature the Doctor needing

everyone who he's ever needed to fight for him - meaning that Rose, Martha & Donna will

most likely also feature in this story.  It's possible even more faces from the past will be

included such as Sarah Jane, K9, Mickey, Jackie & Pete.

The BBC have confirmed that Billie Piper will be returning as Rose Tyler in the final 3 episodes

of the season:  BBC News have reported that Billie Piper will be returning to Doctor Who,

portraying her original character of Rose Tyler.  The news was originally reported in the

November 27, 2007 Daily Mirror, which went on to say: "The Time Lord, played by David

Tennant, starts with Donna (Catherine Tate) as his helper, is then joined by Martha

(Freema Agyeman) and then reunites with Billie's character Rose for the finale.  A source

said: "With Donna, Martha and Rose competing to assist him, Dr. Who is going to be spoilt

for choice."  The paper also reported that the actress will be in at least 3 episodes of the

new series.  (also reported by The Hollywood News, Daily Record, Ananova and Marie

Claire)  The breaking news was actually reported on Doctor Who Forum on the 26th

by fans present at filming in Cardiff, including photos of Billie Piper at the location.  The

BBC have also issued a general press release: "Billie Piper to return to Dr Who.  Actress

Billie Piper is to return to Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.  She will star in 3 episodes

of the sci-fi drama, reprising her role as the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler.  Rose's

return will mean the Doctor has three assistants in next year's series - Donna, played

by Catherine Tate, and Freema Agyeman as Martha.  The new series begins in March

and will run for 13 episodes.  There will be three special editions in 2009 before the show

takes a break until 2010."  :-0)

Writers for Series 4 include new writers:

James Moran (1 episode - also writing a Season 2 Torchwood episode)

&

Keith Temple (1 episode) - "Planet of the Ood", will feature the homeworld & back-story

of The Ood from "The Impossible Planet" / "The Satan Pit".

Returning writers include:

Gareth Roberts (1 episode); he previously wrote "The Shakespeare Code", and co-wrote

the Sarah Jane Adventure pilot "Invasion of the Bane" (with Russell T. Davies).

Stephen Greenhorn (1 episode); he previously wrote "The Lazarus Experiment".

Tom MacRae (1 episode); he previously wrote "Rise of the Cybermen" / "The Age of Steel".

His episode was actually replaced when it was felt that it was too close in tone to "The Unicorn

and the Wasp".

Helen Raynor (2 episodes - 4 & 5 - Sontarans); she previously wrote "Daleks in Manhattan" /

"Evolution of the Daleks", + Torchwood's "The Ghost Machine" & "To The Last Man".

Steven Moffat (2 episodes); he previously wrote the outstanding episodes: "The Empty Child"

/ "The Doctor Dances", "The Girl In The Fireplace" & "Blink" (the first 3 of which have since

won the prestigious Hugo Award).

Russell T. Davies (4 episodes); he's written 21 previous new Who stories; he wrote the pilot

episode for Torchwood ("Everything Changes"), co-wrote the pilot episode of The Sarah

Jane Adventures ("Invasion of the Bane").

Season 4 Episodes:

01 Partners in Crime [title confirmed] (airs Saturday April 5!)

written by Russell T. Davies

directed by James Strong

guest starring:

Sarah Lancashire as Miss Foster

Claudio Laurini as Miss Foster's Guard

Jacqueline King as Mrs. Sylvia Noble

Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott.

Billie Piper as Rose Tyler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The runaway bride sets out to find her Time Lord.  Donna Noble is determined to

find the Doctor again - even if it means braving the villainous Miss Foster and her

hordes of sinister Adipose, as Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time traveling

drama returns for a fourth series.  But when the alien threat escalates out of control,

can Donna find her Time Lord before the march of the Adipose begins?"

The first episode sees Donna tracking down the Time Lord during an alien emergency in

modern-day London.

Sarah Lancashire has been cast as Miss Foster, who is described as an "enigmatic and

powerful business woman".  She told the Press Association: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be

in Doctor Who.  It's a brilliant episode and I'm looking forward to taking the Time Lord on."

"The first episode has the most unusual monsters we've ever created.  The special effects

guys are so excited by it, they keep phoning me up going 'wait til you see them, wait til you

see them!'  It's the sort of creature we've never tried before.  It's thrilling, it's really

thrilling.  It's fun, and it's darker than ever in some places.  It's a cracking series, I can't

wait for it to start." - Russell T. Davies

02 The Fires of Pompeii [title confirmed]

written by James Moran

directed by Colin Teague

guest starring:

Phil Davis as Lucius

Peter Capaldi as Caecillius

Tracy Childs as Metella

Francesca Fowler (TBA)

Francois Pandolfo (TBA)

Phil Davis also appeared with Eighth Doctor Paul McGann in Alien 3.

"The Doctor and Donna travel back into ancient history, in the second

episode of Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama.

When they arrive in 79AD, however, they discover psychic powers and beasts

of stone running riot in the streets of Pompeii.  The time-travelers face their

greatest challenge yet - can established history be changed, or must the Doctor

let everyone die?"

Interesting question.  He's changed established history (from his point of view)

when he ended Harriet Jone's career as Prime Minister...but bitches to others

about not mucking up the timeline.

Filming for the episode took place at Rome's Cencitta

Studios.

The Doctor & Donna arrive in Pompeii in 79 AD, on the eve of

the historic eruption of Mount Vesuvius.  They are posed with

an immediate dilemma - shed they warn the residents of Pompeii

of the forthcoming catastrophe or leave them to fend for themselves?

Russell T. Davis was quoted as saying James Moran spent all the budget

on this episode.

He also said: "Doctor Who is terrifying because it's so visible.  We have eight

million viewers.  We can't get away with making a bad episode.  But it's also

the best job in the world.  I control the mother ship, I say: "I want Pompeii,

with rock monsters!" how great is that?"

03 Planet of the Ood [title confirmed]

written by Keith Temple

directed by Graeme Harper

guest starring:

Tim McInnery TBA

Silas Carson as Ood voices

The Doctor and Donna land on an ice planet called the Ood-Sphere, and the Doctor

discovers what drove the Ood to become a servant race.

This episode will be set on the Ood's home planet, a "weird and wonderful world".

The episode will be set before the events the previous Ood episodes: "The Impossible

Planet" & "The Satan Pit".

writer Keith Temple: "The Ood have changed now.  We saw snippets of that in the

previous story - the thing about them being a slave race, born to serve.  I always

thought 'What?  Nobody is born to serve!  Why would a species say that?'.  I wanted

to explore that, so it's become part of the story, exploring why they are the way they

are, servile.  When things go wrong on the ice planet where the story is set, the Ood

become quite unpleasant, but they're not out-and-out monsters.  They do what they

do for a reason.  And that's much more interesting to write for then just to have some

kind of scary monster going....<makes monster noise>.  When you explain why the

Ood behave the way they behave that's much more interesting."

04 The Sontaran Stratagem [Part I] [title confirmed]

05 The Poison Sky [Part II]

written by Helen Raynor

directed by Douglas Mackinnon

Clive Standen as Private Harris.

"Martha Jones summons the Doctor back to modern-day Earth, but an old enemy

lies in wait, as Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama continues.

With the mysterious ATMOS devices spreading across the world, Donna discovers that

even her own family is not safe from alien threat - but is it too late to save them?"

"The Sontarans activate their master plan and begin to choke the whole of planet Earth

as Russell T. Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama continues.  UNIT is left

defenseless, with a traitor in their ranks.  And as interplanetary war edges closer, the

Doctor has to fight to keep both Martha and Donna alive - but will he have to make the

ultimate sacrifice?"

"There's a sense that a bit of time has passed between Christmas and the start

of the new series.  And we'll get to find out exactly how the Doctor feels about

Martha because she's going to come back, too.  That will definitely help to keep

the mix nice and bubbly.  I think the Doctor feels like he's let Martha down somehow.

Not that he did anything wrong, but he does feel a slight, non-specific regret.  That's

something he's sure to want to address." - David Tennant

Freema Agyeman on Martha's return to Doctor Who: "She'll actually be in a relationship

by that point, so that part of her soul is fulfilled, so I think she'll look at her relationship

with the Doctor with fresh eyes - older and much, much wiser.  The last time they will

have seen one another is after she just saved the world, so she went out on a high.

And they meet up again so I imagine that they'll be sizing each other up a bit!"

06 The Doctor's Daughter [Part III]

directed by Alice Troughton

written by Stephen Greenhorn

Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones. (3 of 5)

Georgia Moffett as Jenny (Georgia Moffett is the real daughter of Peter Davison aka the 5th Doctor!)

"The Doctor meets the most important woman of his life on the distant planet Messaline, in the middle

of an endless war, as Russell T. Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama continues.  But as

General Cobb threatens genocide, and Martha is kidnapped by the Hath, the Doctor faces an even

greater battle - can he find peace with his own child?"

On a mysterious planet, Earth soldiers fight with strange monsters called the Haff.

But when Martha gets in serious danger, the mystery and darkness escalates as the

Doc is changed forever.  Who is the mysterious Jenny?  Will Martha survive?  And what

deadly discovery could rock the Doctor to the core?

07 The Unicorn and the Wasp [Title Confirmed] (airs May 17th)

written by Gareth Roberts

directed by Graeme Harper

"In 1926, Agatha Christie disappeared for 10 days.  Was it amnesia?  A nervous

breakdown?  Or a Giant Alien Wasp?  As Russell T. Davies's BAFTA Award-winning

time-traveling drama continues, the Doctor and Donna join forces with the world's

most famous crime novelist to encounter a body in the library, poisoned cocktails and

a Vespiform seeking Revenge."

This episode will include the word: "Vespiform" [Wasp-like].

It's rumored that this is the episode has the pair having an encounter with legendary

murder mystery novelist Agatha Christie (Fenella Woolgar).  Felicity Kendall has also

been cast in this episode as "Lady Clemency Eddison".

Russell T. Davies on the episode: "Visiting Agatha Christie has been on my wish list f

or ages now, and for the Doctor, it's a real meeting of minds."

This episode was also set up in the closing moments of "Last of the Time Lords" when

the Doctor suggested to Martha that they meet Agatha Christie.

08 Silence in the Library [Part I]

09 Forest of the Dead [Part II]

written by Steven Moffat

directed by Euros Lyn

guest starring Alex Kingston (E.R.) as River Song.

guest starring Steve Pemberton as Lux.

guest starring Colin Slamon (Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day)

"One hundred years ago, the universe's greatest library was sealed off, leaving only one warning: 'Count the shadows'.  But now, the shadows are moving again.  As Russell T. Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama continues, the Doctor and Donna must uncover the terrible truth behind the Nodes and the horrifying Data Ghost, to find the library's secret."

River Song & Lux are said to be mysterious characters who meet The Doctor on

an expedition to uncover the secrets of an abandoned library.

The Sun has reported that this story sees The Doctor and Donna Noble ending up

in the 51st Century (Captain Jack's time) in a giant library; a whole planet of books

that's been abandoned for 100 years.  The library contains many books that give away

spoilers about people's life stories.  Alex Kingston stars as an astronaut-cum-archaeologist

called Professor River Song.  The library is full of sinister things such as dead bodies, "data

ghosts", the Suit Creature and the dreaded Vashta Nerada "piranhas of the air - shadows

that melt the flesh".  In later scenes the Doc and Donna get separated and she ends up in a

mysterious hospital where she meets another Doctor - Doctor Moon.  All the while she is

trying to work out what is going on what has happened to her Doctor.

10 Midnight [Title Confirmed] (probably the start of the closing arc)

written by Russell T. Davies

directed by Alice Troughton

guest starring Billie Piper as Rose Tyler (3 of 6)

guest starring Lesley Sharp

guest starring Lindsey Coulson

guest starring Daniel Ryan

guest starring Rakie Ayola

guest starring Ayesha Antoine

guest starring Duane Henry

guest starring Colin Morgan

guest starring Ryan Sampson

guest starring David Troughton (son of Patrick Troughton aka the 2nd Doctor!)

This is a "Donna Lite" episode; it was filmed at the same time as TURN LEFT,

which is the Doctor Lite episode.

The Doctor and Donna visit the leisure planet Midnight, replete with golden spas,

diamond landscapes, and anti-gravity restaurants.  However, even the Doctor can

do nothing when the knocking on the wall begins.

Lesley Sharp plays a woman on holiday there.  The Doctor and Donna end up stranded

there with an alien threat all around.  Lesley is described as 'brilliant' and 'terrifying'

by Phil Collinson.

"On the planet Midnight, Donna Noble goes sunbathing while the Doctor boards a shuttle

bus to the Sapphire Waterfall.  However, something dangerous is going with him, signaling

its presence with its constant knocking on the side of the bus."

"The Doctor is trapped, alone, powerless and terrified, on the planet Midnight, as Russell

T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama continues.  Soon, the knocking on

the wall begins.  Only a woman called Sky seems to know the truth - but as paranoia turns

into a witch-hunt, Sky turns the Doctor's greatest strengths against him, and a sacrifice

must be made..."

11 Turn Left [Part I] 50 Minutes (usually 45)

written by Russell T. Davies

directed by Graeme Harper

Martha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer,

the Sontarans, Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper & Ianto Jones are all mentioned.

The Titanic, the Webstar, The Racnoss Empress, the Adipose and Atmos are all revisited.

The Trickster is mentioned, and this episode actually serves as a crossover sequel to

the Sarah Jane Adventures episodes: "Whatever Happened To Sarah Jane? Parts I & II".

"Donna's entire world collapses, but there's no sign of the Doctor, as Russell T.

Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-traveling drama continues.  Instead, she finds

help from a mysterious blonde woman - a traveler from a parallel universe. But

as Donna and Rose Tyler combine forces, are they too late to save the whole of

creation from the approaching darkness?"

"The Chino-planet of Shan Shen seems like a great place to visit: all flags, pagodas

and local color.  The TARDIS twosome are having a right old laugh, messing around

on the open-air, ramshackle market stalls...  that is, until a Fortune Teller tempts Donna

with a free reading.  In an incense-laced chamber, this mysterious and cryptic figure

starts delving into Donna's past.  Searching for something very significant...  a single

event.  And what's that thing, scuttling away in the curtains behind Donna's back...?"

- Russell T. Davies.

Donna's life, family and world are devastated and not even the Doctor can save

her, but a girl once thought lost forever in a parallel universe can help.

It's rumored that episode 11 will be the now annual Doctor-Lite episode (previous

Doctor-Lite episodes include "Love & Monsters" & "Blink"), and will actually center

around Rose Tyler in the alternate Torchwood - finding a way to contact Donna.

It's possible that Martha Jones also appears in this episode.

It's also rumored that this episode will feature Rose, Donna & Martha in the TARDIS

searching for the lost Doctor - marking the first ever episode of Doctor Who to not

feature the title character - but that rumor seems all but debunked now.

apportioned off, a bit here and a bit there, and the major people will be the Doctor

and Donna.  That is my take on it.  We are coming back to reinforce an already

established team.  So I don't think I'll be leading the group, if you know what

I mean!  I think there will be a distinct kind of sectioning and apportioning off.

Because you can only do so much with so many people."

14 Music of the Spheres [Part IV] (Proms Cutaway Scene) July 7?

15 The New Doctor (2008 Christmas Special)

"There's the Easter one and then a big gap, and then the other three are going to go out

around Christmas time / end of the year.  It ends in a two-parter.  There's a very strong

link between the last three specials.  It's not a three-parter, but there's a strong connection.

As we head towards the ending it gets thematically bigger & bigger.  Everyone knows David's

going, so you start to write that into it.  Everyone knows where the story is heading, especially

with Matt Smith being everywhere.  It's nice actually.  We play with that.  The details have

changed - who's, where, and the geography of it.  But yes, I always knew.  There's only one

way to do it, really.  It's there in my head.  If I could just put a wire into my head it would be

on paper now.  Literally, stage direction by stage direction I know what happens.  I think it's

going to be a brilliant piece of television." - Russell T. Davies.
