When I was a child in the 1970's there was a television show that I watched every week...  Wonder Woman was that show.  I recently taped some episodes off the Sci/Fi channel & showed them to my mother to which she groaned dramatically & said:  "Your hero!".  I worshiped Wonder Woman as a child, (& they didn't know I was gay?) & I often pretended I was her when I would play with my friends.

Wonder Woman's first 2 seasons (along with the pilot episode) have finally found their way to DVD!  Season 3 will arrive on DVD June 7, 2005!!!  ;-0)

Wonder Woman's pilot episode ("The New Original Wonder Woman") aired in Noveber of 1975, which puts me at about 1 year old.  Then the first season began airing in April of 1976.  The first season was set in World War II & featured many characters from the comic books, or so I've read, as I'm not a huge comic book fan.  Some fans of the comics look down on the series for messing with the comic book, but as a child I had no knowledge of Wonder Woman's literary origins, or the changes they had made...  For instance - on the series, Wonder Woman's sister Drusilla (played by Debra Winger!) became Wonder Girl, which apparently did not happen in the comics - but I LOVED those episodes as a child.

The First Season of Wonder Woman aired on ABC & featured only 14 episodes, including the pilot.  The series was bought by CBS for it's 2nd & 3rd Seasons, which brought the storyline into the late 1970's - the present at that time.  As a child I have no recollection of the time change - I just thought Wonder Woman was cool & followed wherever she led...

Watching the series now, as an adult, I'm struck by how much the ABC & CBS episodes differ.  The ABC episodes featured Wonder Woman as innocent, but there was something about her that shined through as noble & rare...  I'm not sure I'm describing it well but it is very much present in my favorite episodes of that year.  The CBS years have many more episodes but I like so few of them, now that I'm older & have to deal with plot & such; lol.
