COLLECTING FAN / HET / SLASH ART:

In the fall of 2001 I began working on a mixed cd for my friend Amber.  Amber is a huge Superman fan, so I thought it would be fun to give her a cd of songs that were inspired by (or that referenced in some way) the 'Man of Steel'.  That part was fairly easy, but when it came time to design the cover art I was at a loss.  I Googled for Superman pix which I could use for the cover art and found all sorts of artwork made by fans of Superman, for fans of Superman.  Most of the art was hand drawn, while some of it was painted; some of them were very child like, while others were more elaborate.  Then there were the photo-manipulations: photographs of real people, manipulated by an artist so that the subject appears to be a fictional character of the artist's choosing.  I had never seen a photomanip before and was amazed at how this style of fan art really breathed life into the fictional character of Superman; often times in ways that even a movie or animation could not.  Some of the fan art was adult in nature, which I guess I expected, but what I didn't expect was that the art for the pornographic pieces would be so rich in quality, so beautiful & detailed, that I was stunned by their craftsmanship, their finesse & their brilliance; they aroused my mind as much as (and often times more than) my dick.

I began scouring the internet for more pictures; not just of Superman, but all superheroes, and then other fandoms like 'Star Wars', 'The X Files' & 'The Lord of The Rings', and my collection began to grow.  There were far more heterosexual adult style pictures, and they were mostly the female heroes, but I was able to find men & slash (male/male female/female) picture as well - and the 'Het' pictures were just as exciting to me.  And the quality of the art continued to astound me.  I couldn't believe how amazing, talented & articulate this subculture was.  I started reading up on comic characters that I'd never heard of, but now had pictures of!  lol  I soon knew the back stories of the many different Robins, Green Lanterns, & Flashes.  It was, and continues to be a lot of fun.

My collection grew out of control, and I recently decided to just concentrate on the adult style ones, though I see non-adult ones on a regular basis that are too beautiful for words; I needed some kind of guideline to limit my collecting impulse; something that would give it focus & meaning.  So far it's working out wonderfully.  I would love to share my collection here on this website but I don't own the artwork, and I don't own the characters.  But to give you some idea of what I'm talking about I recommend the following websites & groups.  If you enjoy what you see, please take the time to tell the hosts, artists & moderators!  The art on this page was kindly shared by Jim of the iMiJ Factory.  You can see other fan art at the following locations:
