Bald Jason's Musings

I got like 5 calls this morning. I got a call from the doctor's office about a blood test I'd given. I need to lower my sweets and get more exercise, both of which I was planning on doing all on my own, so I feel fine about that. I had a missed call from my friend Mike, though he left no message; I gave him a call back and left him a voicemail. I'm guessing that he called as he probably needs some new Whoniverse discs. I got a voicmail from my Dad asking about hanging out with me & Janice, which I've already spoken to her about, weeks ago. She said she wanted to find out when the kids are going to be on Christmas Vacation before setting that up. I called her to see if she'd found out, but there was no answer, and when it got to the machine it asked me to give my remote access code. It's done that a few times in the past and I think it must be something that happens when her machine is full or something. I called and tried to make an appointment with my G.I. Specialist, but the soonest she can be seen is my appointment in February. That really sucks. They put me on her cancellation list, and will call me if anything opens up. Until then, I'm not sure what I should be doing... I'm kind of in the dark.
My monitor is working fine at the moment, for which I'm grateful.
I started reading the 2nd Terok Nor novel again. I had read most of it months ago, and had stopped to read something else and just never got back to it.
I watched several episodes of Battlestar Galactica last night; I finished watching "Bastille Day" then watched "Act of Contrition" and "You Can't Go Home Again". Great show. It's odd watching the early episodes, knowing all the twists that the show will take later on. Without giving too much away, it's just weird watching the show, knowing that some people are Cylons, while some of them don't know. And rewatching all of Gaeta's stuff is now having the same effect. And it's also odd getting to know 'Boomer' again, as I'd forgotten how moving her storyline was...while also watching 'Athena' come into her own... It's just...so weird. But cool.
When Battlestar Galactica is finished, there will be 80 episodes by my reckoning, not including "Caprica". That's less than half of what DS9 had, and yet BSG's story seems to be unfolding at exactly the right pace and isn't dragging anything along. Some of these 80 episodes are 2 hours long, and some of them are less than an hour. Some of them have extended cuts, or are movies or miniseres installments. But here's how I breakdown the series:
Battlestar Galactica:
00 Caprica: The Series
01 Razor Minisodes 1-2, 7 (Part 2)these are the minisodes that weren't edited back into 'Razor'; they take place before the miniseries, and I believe they should be taken as an episode until themselves; a kind of pre-series minisode.

80 Battlestar Galactica: The Plan
(Tele-Movie set during the mini-series - meant to be viewed afterwards - which, seems likely to explain the Cylons oft referenced plan; almost all Cylon models will be featured in this film)
The 'reimagined' BSG is a character drama that is also a cool science fiction story that deals with humanity. All the characters are flawed to some degree. The series deals with issues of sexuality, addiction, frailty, gender, freedom of choice, freedom of religion, war, love, fear, hope.... The series is often unrelenting in it's darkness. It's brave television and deserves to be seen, and to run it's course. Hopefully the ending is handled well.
