Bald Jason's Musings
Sunday, May 9, 2010
Went to Michael's just after the last entry. He was watching 'Heroes'. We ate and played Wii Mario Brothers. He watched some Nurse Jackie and we went to bed. I had a hard time sleeping; not exactly nightmares when I did sleep, but kind of recurring annoying visions; stuck in a loop. Michael went to work. I came home. Had a shake. Worked on Farm Town which has been updated again. Talked to Mark & Michael on the phone. Watched the new Doctor Who, "The Vampires of Venice" (way better than the previous 4 episodes, but still not perfect, I give it 3 stars).
Think I'm going to sleep now.

I did sleep after the last entry, until 1am. I got up. Ate. Worked on my farm. Talked to Michael on the phone. Did some other Facebook comments.
New Who Season 5:
01 The Eleventh Hour ****
02 The Beast Below **
03 Victory of the Daleks *
04 The Time of Angles **
05 Flesh and Stone **
06 The Vampires of Venice ***If we could just have the rest of the season be 3 star average kind of episodes I'd be happy with that at this point.
Just took a shower. Need to finish some FT stuff. Feeling sleepy AGAIN. Maybe because of the eating.

Talked to Michael on the phone. He's at work. Said that our phones were shut off and that he paid to have them turned back on. We're SO BROKE right now. Talked to Mark about it. He'll be home tonight. We 3 might go to Necto tonight (for free) now that there's no smoking at the bar.

I worked on my website on Monday. I talked to Michael. I talked to Mark. I slept. When Mark got home from his trip I had a horrible headache and was laying down in the dark. I slept more. Worked on my Doctor Who page. I have the first half of Season 31 figured out. I'm sure of it. It's perfect. But the 2nd half looks to be somewhat more troublesome, and will be impossible to finish at least until Sarah Jane airs it's 4th Season this fall, and possibly not until November (if there's a mini-episode) or December (if the Christmas Special is related). Still. I feel good about what I did figure out. I might post an entry explaining why I think this order works...but not now.
I need more groceries, but we're extremely broke I think. This worries me. A lot. If I've lost my insurance than it's finally time to look for a job. If I've not lost my insurance than it's time to reapply for food assisstance. We'll see what happens next.

Rewatched "The Eleventh Hour" and still think it's an amazing episode of Who. It's a shame that the episodes that followed were so lame. I'm planning on rewatching those episodes as well, in hopes that I'll enjoy them more, though in truth, I've seen the next episodes 3 times already and all those extra times just revealed all the plot holes that rushed by me the first time. Hopefully the other episodes will get slightly better?

Did a lot of stuff yesterday. Tried Red Bull. Found out I still have insurance which is good because I need it, but sucks because I miss working and if I work I lose the insurance; it's fucked up. Went to Meijer, 2 banks, Kroger & Hiller's with Mark. Got all the new stuff on Farm Town. Talked to Michael. Talked to DJ. Talked to my Mom. Watched the new Glee. Downloaded the new LOST & V. Slept from 6pm-Midnight. Chatted. Read the news. Ate.
I may take a nap.
Just read the description for an upcoming Trek book which might be cool. It's one of 4 'Typhon Pact' books coming in late 2010 / early 2011; there's this one, a DS9 one, a Titan one & a Next Generation one. This volume has enough DS9 stuff in it to please me though:
STAR TREK: TYPHON PACT – Zero Sum Game
A spy for the Typhon Pact — a new political rival of the Federation — steals the plans for Starfleet's newest technological advance: the slipstream drive. To stop the Typhon Pact from unlocking the secrets of slipstream drive, Starfleet Intelligence recruits a pair of genetically enhanced agents: Dr. Julian Bashir, of station Deep Space 9; and Sarina Douglas, a woman whose talents Bashir helped bring to fruition, and who Bashir thinks of as his long-lost true love.
Bashir and Douglas are sent to infiltrate the mysterious species known as the Breen, find the hidden slipstream project, and destroy it. Meanwhile, light-years away, Captain Ezri Dax and her crew on the U.S.S. Aventine play a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with a Typhon Pact fleet that stands between them and the safe retrieval of Bashir and Douglas from hostile territory.
Here's the cool cover art:
352 Pages
Coming October 26, 2010.

I didn't sleep until Michael got here last night. We both must have been beat because we slept over 12 hours. I had odd dreams about the end of LOST and getting sucked into the land of Narnia...also baking cookies. Very odd. Michael left this morning without us having done much of anything. He's working at the census B today, just a few blocks from where this guy lives that Michael cheated on me with; the guy who eventually told me the truth. It's left me kind of bummed, though I know nothing is going on there now.
Blah.

Went to Michael's last night. We fucked frantically and joyously. We went to his census employer's home, which was beatiful (and filled inside & out with all manner of decorative frogs), and located just a block or two from Tony Glassman's former digs (back when I was seeing him in 94); so many FUN memories from that neighborhood. We went to Kroger and Little Caesars. We went back to Michael's and we watched 'Imagine Me & You', which I had seen once years ago and thought was cute...and it still was. We played Mario Brothers. I tried butterscotch ice cream topping, which was sinfully delicious on my soy ice cream. I tried Strawberry Crush, which was VERY strawberry tasting, which was interesting to me, as grape flavored stuff never really tastes like grapes...but this stuff was very strawberry tasting. Later there was bed with much sleep. Today we finished off Season 1 of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. I gave him a wank. We fed the new baby ducks and geese. Michael left for work and I took a cat nap. I also did his dishes; took out his trash; put some more dirty dishes in the washer (after emptying the clean dishes and putting those away); made his bed and dropped off a perscription of his on my way home. I just did the Farm Town thing. I should get some stuff ready for my case worker but I have until Monday and it's absolutely gorgeous out...so I might skip that for now in favor of a walk. I also have to go drop something off for a friend. I'm having a good day so far.

More Doctor Who titles have been confirmed; we now know (for sure) the titles of 11 of 13 episodes this season (not including the Christmas Special or any bonus episodes that may or may not be a part of the season). Here's how they rate so far:
01 The Eleventh Hour [Part III] ****
02 The Beast Below **
03 Victory of the Daleks *
04 The Time of Angels [Part I] **
05 Flesh & Stone [Part II] **
06 The Vampires of Venice ***Unaired:
07 Amy's Choice
08 The Hungry Earth [Part I]
09 Cold Blood [Part II]
10 Vincent and the Doctor
11 The Lodger12 The Pandorica Opens (rumored title)
13 The Big Bang (rumored title)
13 Enemies of the Doctor (rumored title)All of these episodes are part of what I deem to be Season 31 of the Whoniverse. Other installments include the post Season 30 Doctor Who Specials, Torchwood: Children of Earth, and Sarah Jane Seasons 2-4. I have the first 30 or so installments worked out in such a way that I'm very pleased with, where stories from Sarah Jane, Doctor Who & Torchwood all seem to be bouncing off of one another. But there are about 30 other episodes that I won't be sure of until possibly the last week of 2010. I'll post my listing of those in my next entry, explaining them, but I have to run now. Be back later. ;-0)

I so don't expect anyone to read this entry.
Ok. Where was I? Doctor Who. Or Doctor Whoniverse to be more precise. Season 31 of the Wnoniverse is proving to be quite interesting, having come off from a 3 part Doctor Who finale which wrapped up not just Doctor Who for the Season, but Torchwood & The Sarah Jane Adventures as well. A huge crossover that I've never seen the like of in other shared universes like Buffy / Angel, Six Millon Dollar Man / Bionic Woman, Hercules / Xena. I always loved crossovers like those, but this one was EPIC, and actually felt like the 3 shows were integrating naturally; it didn't feel forced to me. Nice. My point of bringing all this up is that in said massive finale, The 10th Doctor travels with just about ever companion he's had in the last 4 years (and one or two even older than that) and then in the end is left traveling all on his own, having just lost his friends, the love of his recent life and his best friend to boot. Sad. This fact (and the nature of the production of the show, in which Doctor Who took a year off) help to shape the first 30 or so episodes of Season 31...because as the Doctor travels on his own with no companion, we are denied as an audience, the connection with the Doctor that we would prefer to have...because in a very real sense, the audience is the Doctor's companion.
Onwards.
Oh. Another thing. You might ask...why would a season of the Whoniverse involve only 1 short season of Torchwood, 1 season & a handful of specials for Doctor Who, but 3 seasons of Sarah Jane. Well, some of it has to do with story, and how some stories HAVE to take place before or after others. And then part of it is also, that the Whoniverse always centers on the Doctor, who is a time traveler, so while one season for him might be very short, for everyone not traveling with him and 'stuck on the slow path' a lot more time would have transpired. That's how it works in my my head anyways.
Ok.
Here we go.
Doctor Whoniverse: Season 31
31x01 Day of the Clown 1
31x02 Day of the Clown 2
31x03 Secrets of the Stars 1
31x04 Secrets of the Stars 2SJA episodes 2x03-2x06. These episodes aren't overly impressive and they don't need to be. The season starts off small and builds. These episodes feature the introduction of new main character Rani & her recurring parents. As a bonus we get a cameo flashback appearance of the 10th Doctor in 'Secrets, Part I'.
31x05 The Next Doctor
Touching base with the lonely traveling Doctor we have this little average adventure which is referenced later in the season as part of a much larger story. The scene in which all 10 Doctors are seen seems to be a minor theme in the season as it features several other call-backs to Doctors past.
31x06 Mark of the Berserker, Part 1
31x07 Mark of the Berserker, Part 2
31x08 The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith 1
31x09 The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith 2The Trickster & his Graske (seen previously in 'What Ever Happened To Sarah Jane?") reappear in the latter 2 episodes, with the Graske being released. These 2 episodes also mention / reference the Doctor.
31x10 Music of the Spheres
A Doctor Who mini episode featuring a Graske (possibly the one seen in the previous episode); this is where Sarah Jane & Doctor Who start to feel more connected.
31x11 From Raxicoricofallapatorius With Love
A Sarah Jane mini to mirror the previous Doctor mini.
31x12 Enemy of the Bane 1
31x13 Enemy of the Bane 2A special 2 parter of Sarah Jane that brings back Season 30 villains Mrs. Wormwood and the Sontarran Kaage...it also features the return of Classic Who recurring character The Brig, who was a Companion to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 7th Doctors.
31x14 Planet of the Dead
The 2009 Easter Special for Who introduces the a prophecy that will reach fruition midway through the season.

Didn't sleep well. Had nightmares. I'm tired and my belly is upset. :-0(
Talked to Bryan last night. He went to Detroit comicon yesterday with DJ and ran into Janel. Nice! He also said Tim is running Stadium Hollywood Video now (the only one still in business). Maybe I'll drop by there now and say hello.
I can't concentrate on anything at the moment. I've been awake for like 7 hours and it's a complete haze to me; I can't... I read. I ate. Other than that...what did I do?

The nap is what I needed; feeling much better now, though I'm still in some pain. Blah. Tried calling Michael but he didn't answer; thinking he's asleep again.
New Wachowskis movie in the works. These people made LGBT inclusive movies like the superb lesbian thriller "Bound", the often brilliant yet uneven "The Matrix Trilogy", & the sublime "V for Vendetta". The new movie is said to be an extremely graphic gay love story between a US Soldier and an Iraqui citizen with some sci-fi overtones. Awesome. Looking forward to it.
For those reading this that don't remember "The Matrix Trilogy" as being LGBT inclusive (something I doubt anyone could have missed in "Bound" or "V For Vendetta in which the Gay / Lesbian characters were central) then I offer this evidence:
The Matrix:
At a goth rock party near the beginning of the film, two women can be seen suggestively moving near one another. It's not much, I'll grant you, but it stuck out for me the first time I saw the film.
If that was all I had then I'd not say they were exactly inclusive, but there's more.
The Matrix Reloaded:
In the Matrix Reloaded, during the celebration in Zion there are several graphic shots of girl on girl dancing that appears to be sexual in nature. These characters are human and are being portrayed as the good guys:
That's hard to ignore. There was also a Matrix game released around this time which featured scenes not included in the movies but with the same actors; one scene involved a girl on girl kiss. But there's still more.
The Matrix Revolutions:
During the battle in Zion there is a character who appears to be (sterotypically speaking) a lesbian. She dies without any proof that she is, but the sterotypical lesbian dies fighting for humanity. Also, we see some gay programs in the machine world with another girl / girl dancing couple...
But there is also, finally a boy on boy kiss that cements the trilogy's inclusiveness if you ask me.
Of course all of this happens in the background, but I think it's still a positive portrayal that was cool to be included in an awesome Sci-Fi Trilogy. What do you think?
Stumbled on this graphic music video this morning. I like it.
Downloading some Classic Who. Wish I could find all those old spin-offs that I've not seen. The new episode hasn't been posted yet.
