Only a few months after I wrote my first poem I began to write more poetry.  The next poem I wrote was a follow up to the first & while it was received well by my peers, I was never really happy with it & have set it aside where I can work on it as I see fit.  Other poems soon followed.   Poetry was wonderful, I thought, because I could express myself in ways I never knew of before.  But even though poetry gave me certain freedoms I was still bound by self imposed censorship & I was careful not to write anything too shocking or daring...or queer.  With the exception of "The Soldier's Kiss" (Which was inspired by a cousin of mine whom I had a secret crush on) all of the 1990 poems were written about fictional (safe) characters.  The Greenmantle poems were inspired by the book Greenmantle by Charles De Lint; a book a really enjoyed at the time, by an author who still impresses; you can learn more about him here.
